11 contenders bid for AED 4.4bn Taweelah water plant

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The Abu Dhabi’s energy department has prequalified 11 companies to contest for the AED 4.4 billion Taweelah water plant contract.

The selected companies included Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power, Spain’s Cobra Group, Korea’s Samsung, France’s ENGIE, and German’s Mitsubishi Corporation, according to MEED magazine.

In April, the energy department of the UAE’s capital and biggest sheikhdom stated that it was seeking to invite tenders to bid for the building of the AED 4.4 billion ($1.198 billion) Taweelah plant, with a capacity of 200 million gallons per day.

The developer of the plant will hold up to 40% of a special purpose vehicle that will sign a long-term agreement to sell water to ADWEA, which will directly or indirectly own the rest of the equity in the project, according to Reuters.
