22% of Dubai airports’ travellers use smart gates – GDRFA

Dubai – Mubasher: About 10.685 million travellers through Dubai airports have used smart gates, representing 22.3% of the total passengers, according to recent data released by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA).

The 10 million visitors used up to 122 smart gates at all arrivals and departures at the Dubai airports in 2018, Mohammad Ahmad Al Merri, major general of GDRFA, said.

Those smart gates allow travellers to flow easily without stopping at passport control in Dubai, which is considered one of the busiest airports in the world.

“We are using latest technologies like smart gates, smart tunnel and the passenger pre-approval system to ensure smooth movements,” the major general commented.

Al Merri added that the authority targets reaching 45% of passengers by further enhancing the use of smart gates.

“We expect an increase to 30% of passengers who use smart gates at the airports next year,” Al Merri pointed out.

Over the past 11 years, Dubai airports opened about seven utilities with total investments of $12 billion including developing and launching terminals.
