Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The introduction of 5G technologies will have a growing effect on the future of media, Khalifa Al Shamsi, chief strategy and governance officer of Etisalat Group, said.
Al Shamsi’s announcement came on the sidelines of the 18th edition of Arab Media Forum held at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).
Focusing on the increasing impact of future technology on the media sector, Al Shamsi highlighted the advances in technology, and how it has facilitated the growth of the media sector.
5G networks will have a significant and positive outcome for the media and entertainment industry, Al Shamsi pointed out.
However, 5G data usage will comprise 25% of the total global data transfer share.
The Abu Dhabi-based telecom company was the official telecom partner at the forum that was organised by Dubai Press Club (DPC).
During the two-day even, Etisalat exclusively brought the first Arab ‘Robot Journalist’ in a session on the first day of the forum named “Aga A 20-50”.

Currently, there are up to 5 billion smartphone users with the number expected to exceed 7.2 billion within the coming five years or less.
“The high speeds for data download/upload speeds will benefit all journalists in, particularly investigative reporters. These advanced capabilities will also be of immense benefits in media coverage of major cultural events, especially large-scale ones such as the upcoming Dubai Expo 2020,” Al Shamsi said.
The six-month Expo 2020 Dubai will take place during the period between 20 October 2020 and 10 April 2021 and is expected to welcome more than 25 million visitors.
