Mubasher: The technology of fifth generation of high-speed internet “5G” will boost industries in the GCC and yield about $28 billion in revenues by 2023, according to a report released by Swedish telecom group Ericsson.
The 5G technology will provide GCC economies with automated system platforms, including production line of robots and a variety of automated machineries, the report found.
“The Saudi Arabian market has been exploring remote monitoring of oil wells and making temporary networks available in case of disasters,” Ericsson’s data showed.
The report further stated that the 5G technology was also expected to yield $242 billion revenues in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in the Middle East and Africa region by 2026.
“The commercial launch of 5G network is expected in the UAE in 2020, with an important milestone to that goal being the World Radio Conference in June 2018, where discussions will be held on which spectrum of 5G will be licensed in Europe,” the report unveiled.
