Riyadh – Mubasher: ACWA Power on Wednesday announced that it has won the Skaka photovoltaic (PV) solar project, the first utility-scale renewable energy plant in Saudi Arabia.
With a total cost of SAR 1.3 billion ($302 million), the new plant is expected to generate around 300 megawatts (MWs).
The project is part of the kingdom’s strategy to boost renewable energy production to 9.5 gigawatts (GW) by 2023 as a first phase.
Spanning over six square kilometers, the first utility-scale renewable energy project is located at a site at Al Jouf, according to the Saudi renewable energy developer’s statement.
Saudi Arabian electricity and water firm will sell the generated power of the new project to the government at a new world record tariff of US Cents 2.3417/kWh (8.781 halalas/kWh).
