UAE - Mubasher: The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Total have delivered the first unconventional gas from the UAE, according to a press release on Wednesday.
Produced from the Ruwais Diyab Concession located 200 kilometers west of Abu Dhabi, the unconventional gas came two years after ADNOC and Total had inked an unconventional gas concession agreement.
In November 2018, the Emirati company signed an agreement to grant Total a 40% stake in Ruwais Diyab to explore and develop the area's unconventional gas resources.
The unconventional gas is delivered through a purpose-built gas pipeline and centralised early production facility, which enables distribution through ADNOC’s gas network.
This unconventional gas production is in line with ADNOC’s objective to produce 1 billion standard cubic feet (scfd) of gas from the concession before 2030 to achieve gas self-sufficiency for the UAE.
ADNOC Upstream Executive Director, Yaser Saeed Almazrouei, said: "The accelerated progress in Ruwais Diyab is a testament to the long-standing partnership between ADNOC and TOTAL, which has enabled us to expedite the learning curve in the production of unconventional gas resources, provided cost optimization opportunities and driven efficiencies."
