ADNOC Distribution becomes UAE's first supplier for Barakah Plant

Abu Dhabi - Mubasher: Abu Dhabi National Oil Company for Distribution (ADNOC Distribution) has been qualified by the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) and its subsidiary Nawah Energy Company (Nawah) to become the UAE's first supplier of petroleum products for Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant.

ADNOC Distribution will join 73 local companies selected by ENEC and Nawah to provide high-quality products to the Barakah plant, according to a press release on Tuesday.

The petroleum products include lubricating oil, engine coolant and anti-rust, grease, and fuels, which will be used across a range of applications including the lubrication and fuelling of engines.

The qualification requires the ability to adhere to the ‘nuclear grade’ NQA-1 standard, which is developed and maintained by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

Qualifying a local company is in line with Nawah and ENEC’s efforts to develop a local supply chain that can offer operational service and spare parts to safely and efficiently operate and maintain the Barakah Plant for at least the next 60 years.

The CEO of Nawah Energy Company, Ali Al Hammadi, commented: "In addition to supporting the operation of the Barakah plant, qualified companies will be able to bid for contracts in other stringently regulated industries, both here in the UAE, and on an international level,” added Eng. Al Hammadi."

The Acting CEO of ADNOC Distribution, Ahmed Al Shamsi, said: "We not only aim to meet the standards set by international bodies but to be the first to bring these to the regional market, as recently demonstrated through the launch of the UAE’s first internationally certified lubricant range for hybrid vehicles."
