ADNOC inks LNG partnership with Japan’s Inpex

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The logistics unit of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has signed a partnership with Japan’s Inpex Corporation for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering.

Under the deal, ADNOC and Inpex will explore opportunities for LNG bunkering in the UAE, in addition to potentials to expand activities overseas in regions including Southeast Asia, a recent statement by ADNOC showed.

“Our goal, through this partnership, is to offer safe and efficient LNG fuelling solutions to our customers. With the support of our sister company, ADNOC LNG, as well as our partner, INPEX, we see a significant opportunity to become a major player in the LNG bunker market,” Abdulkareem Al-Masabi, CEO of ADNOC L&S, said.

The decision comes along with ADNOC’s expectations of expanding LNG fuel usage on non-LNG carriers to meet climate targets and the UAE’s growing importance as bunkering hub.

It also comes at a time when LNG as a marine fuel has witnessed increased momentum due to environmental shipping regulations worldwide.

"As outlined in Vision 2040, our long-term corporate vision, we will look to develop gas demand in Asia and other growing markets. LNG bunkering will be a key component to the creation of natural gas demand," Inpex commented.

Inpex also added that the purpose of this partnership was to offer safe and efficient LNG fuelling solutions to its customers, with the support of ADNOC.

Earlier this year, Inpex appointed ADNOC to manage its Lower Zakum offshore concession after securing a 10% interest in the field for $600 million.
