ADNOC to complete sulphur pipeline project in 2019

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) on Sunday said that construction work of its new sulphur pipeline is on track for transporting molten sulphur from its Shah sour gas fields. .

Adnoc Sour Gas, a subsidiary of the UAE’s state-owned ADNOC, said that the pipeline would be finished in 2019.

ADNOC’s annual production of sulphur amounts to 6 million tonnes, while its global market share doubled to 11% in 2016 from 6% in 2014.

Adnoc Sour Gas, a 60:40 venture between ADNOC and US-based Occidental Petroleum, produces 10% of the UAE’s gas output, with a daily production of 1 billion standard cubic feet of gas.

The company is also at pains to boost production at the Shah facilities and becomes one of the leading sulphur exporters.

Germany-based MMEC Mannesmann is implementing the engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) as well as the pipeline’s commissioning, ADNOC said, giving no further details on the project’s cost.

“ADNOC’s clear focus is on retaining and strengthening the company’s competitive edge, and on maximising the value of the UAE’s natural resources, including sulphur, a by-product of gas processing,” Omar Suwaina Al Suwaidi, ADNOC’s Gas Management director, said at the inaugural Middle East Sulphur Conference held last February.
