Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) plans to invest AED700 million in Port of Fujairah expansion project to receive larger vessels, Abdul Kareem Al Masabi, ADPC Ports executive vice-president, said on Monday.
The project aims at increasing the number of shipping lines that are directly linked to Khalifa Port, Zayed Port and Fujairah Port, he added.
Moreover, Al Masabi noted that China’s Cosco Shipping Ports would build $750 million container terminal at Abu Dhabi's Khalifa Port in the next year.
Cosco’s new terminal will increase the port’s capacity to six million containers, the top official highlighted.
The emirate's operator of ports and industrial zones said that total growth of container handling activity amounted to more than 18.6 million tonnes of commodities in 2017.
Over the last five years, ADPC’s container handling activity has grown as much as 70% and it is expected to surpass 20 million tonnes this year.
