Abu Dhabi - Mubasher: The Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) on Wednesday announced it has celebrated Emirati Woman's Day to pay tribute to Emirati women working at the exchange.
The celebration also highlights the efforts made by female employees and the importance of their participation across the financial sector, according to a press release.
This comes in line with the UAE’s leadership policies aiming at empowering Emirati female workers in the country.
Khalifa Salem Al Mansouri, acting chief executive of ADX, commented: “ADX is keen to provide a supportive and empowering environment for Emirati women to invest in their potential, leveraging their unique abilities and motivating them to excel in this sector.”
Al Mansouri also remarked that women are one of the main sources of change and energy at the ADX as they “form influential leaders in the decision-making process.”
“Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), president of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and supreme chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), and the Mother of the UAE, has […] ensured that Emirati women have made great strides towards achieving high levels of excellence globally in various fields,” he added.
He further noted that the Emirati Women's Day has a special theme of "Women are the Icons of Tolerance" in 2019 in line with the Year of Tolerance.
The number of Emirati women working at the ADX has reached 54 out of 130 employees to date, accounting for 41.5% of the workforce, the release revealed, adding that 37% of these women hold managerial roles.
The number of Emirati women investors was nearly 222,000 by the end of the first half of 2019, representing 75% of all the women investors in the exchange.
Moreover, Emirati women investors made up 51% of all Emirati investors; men and women, the ADX said.
The value of buying and selling transactions conducted by Emirati women investors in the stock market during H1-19 amounted to over AED 1.4 Billion, representing 87% of the total trades of women investors in the exchange.
Meanwhile, the volume of Emirati women investors’ trades exceeded 630 million shares, and the market value of shares owned by then reached around AED 21 billion in H1-19, up 8% from approximately AED 19 billion in H1-18.
