ADX rises on banks stocks Wednesday

Abu Dhabi - Mubasher: The Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) suffered losses for the second session in row on Wednesday, dragged down by the banks stocks.

The general index retreated 0.38% or 17.48 points to reach 4,525.36 points.

Trading volume stood at 107.26 million shares on Wednesday, compared to 80.84 million shares on Tuesday. Turnover amounted to AED 227.99 million, compared to AED 204.88 million.

The market’s losses widened as the banks sector led losers with a 0.95% decline, weighed down by Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB), RAK Bank and First Gulf Bank (FGB) which slid 5.04%, 1% and 0.42% respectively.

The index’s performance was negatively affected by Aldar Properties which slid 1.04%. The property developer’s stock was the value leader after generating AED 57.32 million from the exchange of 19.93 million shares.

On the flipside, the investment sector was the best performer after adding 1.44%, backed by Waha Capital which rose 1.5%.

The telecom sector advanced 0.5% as Etisalat went up 0.5%. Similarly, the consumer staples sector grew 0.8% after Asmak and Agthia Group rose 3.4% and 0.7% respectively.
