Abu Dhabi DoE, China’s SGCC ink MoU to support energy sector

UAE – Mubasher: The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) to bolster the energy sector in Abu Dhabi.

The MoU will help to promote efficient consumption practices and strategic transition towards clean and renewable energy sources in the emirate, according to a press release.

The MoU traces the respective roles of each party in executing the strategic partnership signed by the leaderships of the UAE and China in 2018, where the energy sector was “a central theme”, in addition to economic, commercial, and cultural collaboration, and cooperation to boost technological innovation.

The agreement was signed by chairman of DoE Awaidha Murshed Al Marar and executive chairman of SGCC Kou Wei at the DoE’s Pavilion on the sidelines of the 24th World Energy Congress.

Awaidha Murshed Al Marar stressed that Abu Dhabi is keen on building an efficient and advanced energy sector that is environmentally and financially sustainable.

“Forging strategic ties with international pioneers in the energy sector boosts Abu Dhabi’s ability to achieve its strategic aspirations, and implement initiatives to transform the sector,” Al Marar said.

For his part, Kou Wei said: “With the UAE’s strategic goals and ambitions for the energy sector on one hand, and China’s expertise and advanced technology on the other, there is always room for collaboration among the two countries to achieve their common objectives. The MoU we have signed is a starting point for more joint initiatives and projects in the future.”

It is worth noting that DoE is the host sponsor of the 24th World Energy Congress, being held in Abu Dhabi from 9 to 12 September 2019.
