UAE – Mubasher: Abu Dhabi Ports has launched a project worth AED 100 million (EUR 24.5 million) to build a new cruise jetty at Sir Bani Yas Cruise Beach to double its capacity.
The new cruise jetty is set to be inaugurated in the fourth quarter of 2020, coinciding with the launch of the 2021 cruise season, according to a recent press release.
The jetty, which will be designed and constructed by BAM International, a subsidiary of Europe's large firm for contracting Royal BAM Group, will include a 350-metre open-access trestle, eight mooring dolphins, firefighting equipment, solar lighting, and hand railing.
This expansion will enable Sir Bani Yas Cruise Beach to receive two vessels or around 5,000 travelers at any time as well as expedite the measures to embark and disembark travelers.
Commenting on the project, cruise terminal director at Abu Dhabi Ports, Noura Rashed Al Dhaheri, said: “Our commitment to its ongoing development will help us significantly increase the total number of visitors to the island, and reduce the time it takes to move them to and from a vessel.”
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Board of BAM International, Eric van Zuthem, referred: “The new cruise jetty at Sir Bani Yas Cruise Beach is our first project with Abu Dhabi Ports, and we look forward to commencing a long and successful relationship between our organisations.”
