Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The Abu Dhabi’s energy department, into which Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (Adwea) was merged, is planning to tender the world’s biggest water desalination plant next May.
The energy department has stated that it seeks to invite tenders to bid for the building of the AED 4.4 billion ($1.198 billion) Taweelah plant, with a capacity of 200 million gallons per day, according to MEED magazine.
The developer of the plant will own up to 40% of a special purpose vehicle that will sign a long-term agreement to sell water to ADWEA, which will directly or indirectly own the rest of the equity in the project, Reuters reported in January.
Abu Dhabi produces approximately 960 million water gallons per day from 10 desalination plants.
