Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The Abu Dhabi's energy department, into which Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (Adwea) was merged, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Germany-based Siemens AG to develop the conventional and renewable energy sector.
The deal entails upgrading the optimal energy mix for the UAE’s capital and biggest sheikhdom by integrating conventional and renewable energy sources into existing power grids in a bid to slash the electricity tariff and boost power supplies.
Through its partnership with the German engineering conglomerate, Abu Dhabi's state-run utility is looking to bolster energy sector’s Emiratisation by drawing up a three-year roadmap to operate the sector by national hands.
The two parties also agree on embracing the cutting-edge technology, providing training and knowledge transfer and bringing the necessary expertise to promote full Emiratisation.
“The partnership with Siemens International supports the policy of diversifying energy sources and access to energy security through ambitious initiatives and projects to integrate diverse energy sources, expand reliance on renewable energy and encourage innovation in smart cities,” Mohammad Rashid Bin Jarsh Al Falasi, undersecretary of the department of energy-Abu Dhabi, commented.
