UAE – Mubasher: The 26th World Road Congress Abu Dhabi 2019 has been officially inaugurated on 6 October by Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court and a member of the Executive Council.
The congress, which is taking place for the first time in the Middle East, was opened under the patronage of Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE’s Armed Forces, according to a press release.
Being held under the theme of ‘Connecting Cultures, Enabling Economies’, the congress represents a great opportunity to conduct high-level discussions and demonstrate the development and sustainability of the UAE infrastructure to the world.
The congress will also support the long-term vision of the UAE’s capital by focusing on the knowledge-based industries of the future.
Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure Development and Chairman of the Federal Transport Authority – Land and Maritime, said: “Abu Dhabi is the first city in the Middle East to host the World Road Congress and the city has helped the UAE be ranked first for having the best roads in the world for four straight years.
“Under the theme of 'Connecting Cultures, Enabling Economies', the World Road Congress will help us share ideas and best practices and together we can take the necessary action to promote the sustainable growth of road networks, transport and infrastructure around the world, which will benefit the present and future generations,” Al Nuaimi added.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Chairman of the Department of Transport (DoT) Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Several delegates will get to know about the significant remarkable transformation of Abu Dhabi’s roads with the DoT playing a vital role in making the UAE capture the first spot in the Quality of Roads Index in the World Economic Forum Global Competitiveness Reports.
