Abu Dhabi hotels welcome 4.1m in 10M

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Hotels in the emirate of Abu Dhabi have welcomed around 4.1 million guests during the first 10 months of 2018, up 4.4% from 3.9 million in the same period last year.

Hotel occupancy rates in the UAE’s capital and biggest sheikhdom edged up 0.5% year-on-year to 70% in the 10-month period, compared to 77.3% in the year-ago period, according to data released by the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism.

Total revenue of Abu Dhabi’s hotels declined 5.8% year-on-year during the January-October period of this year, recording AED 4.1 billion, the department said.

The number of domestic tourists who stayed in the emirate’s hotels during the 10-month period reached 1.24 million.

Indians topped the non-emirate clients staying in the hotels of Abu Dhabi during the first 10 months of the year, reaching 335,100 clients, up 15.2% year-on-year from 290,900.

Meanwhile, Chinese hotel clients came in the second place with 333,600 clients, up 10.7% from 301,400 clients in the year-ago period, data showed.

Additionally, British visitors increased by 8.5% to 219,100 hotel clients, compared to 201,800 clients in the corresponding ten-month period of 2017, followed by American clients who grew 23.5% to 158,800 from 128,600.

Filipino visitors came in the fifth spot with 154,500 hotel clients in Abu Dhabi, versus 154,600, followed by Egyptians with 140,200 clients.
