Abu Dhabi inflation falls YOY in September

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The consumer price index (CPI), the measure of inflation, in the emirate of Abu Dhabi fell slightly last month on a month-on-month basis, but registered a rise year-on-year, data released on Monday showed.

Inflation recorded 4.0% in September down from 4.1% in August, the Statistics Center – Abu Dhabi (SCAD) said, noting that compared to September 2017, inflation had risen from 0.4%.

In the first nine months of 2018, CPI inflation was 3.7% compared to a year ago, while the prices of consumer services and products registered 3.7% versus the year-ago period.

Transportation represented the largest contribution to the rise in nine-month inflation, making up 38.2%, while the segment itself saw an increase of 10.2%, followed by apparel and sportswear with 25.2% of the inflation basket and registering a rise of 19%.

On the other hand, the housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels segment saw a decline of 33.3% after the rentals segment decreased 3.6%.
