Abu Dhabi’s CPI down 0.6% in January - SCAD

Mubasher: Abu Dhabi’s consumer price index (CPI), which measures day to day living costs, slid 0.6% in January 2016 compared to figures from December 2015, according to data by the Statistics Centre-Abu Dhabi (SCAD).

The month-on-month (m-o-m) fall in consumer prices was mainly attributed to declines of 3.5% in the transport group and 1.0% in the furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance group .

SCAD’s monthly report said that consumer prices went up 3.2% in January 2016 as compared with January 2015. 

After advancing 8.2%, the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels' group accounted for 81.8% of the overall year-on-year rise in January prices. 

The 3.2% year-on-year increase in consumer prices in January 2016 by welfare level led to a rise of 3.5% in consumer prices for households of the bottom welfare level, 3.3% for the middle quintile and 3.1% for the top welfare level.

The m-o-m fall in consumer prices by welfare level resulted in a decrease of 0.5% in consumer prices for households of the bottom welfare level, and 0.6% for the middle and the top welfare levels.
