Abu Dhabi’s CPI slips 0.8% in 3M

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The consumer price index (CPI) in the emirate of Abu Dhabi slashed 0.8% year-on-year during the first three months of 2019 to 111.3% from 112.2%, the Statistics Centre of Abu Dhabi (SCAD) revealed.

Month-on-month, the CPI of the emirate decreased by 1% in March to 110.5%, versus 111.6% in February, the SCAD said in a report.

Meanwhile, the CPI of the UAE’s capital slipped by 0.8% last March, recording 110.5%, compared to 111.3% in March 2018, the SCAD added.

The transport segment prices fell by 9.1% year-on-year in the January-March period of this year, contributing to the CPI decline rate by 166.7%.

Furthermore, the prices of the housing services, water, electricity, gas, and fuel segment eased by 3.5% during the three-month period, putting up around 140.1% of the emirate’s CPI rate.

The food and beverage segment has contributed to the CPI drop with 16.1% during the three-month period of 2019, as its prices fell by 1.1% year-on-year, according to the report.
