Abu Dhabi’s clean energy investments hit AED 8bn

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Abu Dhabi’s clean energy investments have recorded AED 8 billion ($2.2 billion), the chairman of the UAE capital’s Department of Energy said.

These investments reflect positively on the sustainability of the renewable energy sector, Gulf Business reported, citing Awaidha Murshed Al Marar as saying.

“The emirate’s investments in the clean energy sector will witness significant growth this year due to a number of new projects in the production of reverse osmosis water and solar electricity production, to be announced in the coming days during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2019,” Al Marar added.

He noted that the UAE injected an amount of AED 2.2 billion in 2006 to establish Shams 1, the Middle East’s largest renewable energy project in operation, with a capacity of 100 megawatts, in addition to other projects including a solar park, Noor Abu Dhabi.

Al Marar revealed that the department plans to launch new projects that will contribute to the sustainability of the emirate’s energy sector, including a 1,500-MW solar power project in the first quarter of 2019, and a reverse osmosis water project later this year.
