Dubai – Mubasher: Spanish contractor Acciona revealed that it will complete the construction of the Dubai Metro Route 2020’s extension in the second quarter of 2020.
The 15-kilometre extension of Dubai Metro's Red Line includes elevated viaducts and two underground stations, Construction Week Online reported.
The company’s managing director Jesús Sancho said that Acconia, which one of several construction companies working on the project, may finish the project before the summer of 2020.
“We have delivered the tunnel, which is almost 3km-long [and was] built using a tunnel boring machine. We encountered very good terrain, so we actually delivered that part [of the project] ahead of time,” Sancho added, noting that the project’s basic infrastructure would be finished before the end of 2018.
He added that Acconia has completed between 40% and 50% of the Dubai Metro Red Line's underground facilities.
“From now on, our key focus will be on the stations. If you drive along Jumeirah Golf Estates or Discovery Gardens [and the] Ibn Battuta Mall area, you will see the different stations all the way to the expo [site],” Sancho said.
It is worth noting that the consortium working on the project also comprises France's Alstom and Turkey's Gulermak Heavy Industries Construction and Contracting Company.
Acciona and Gulermak's scope for Route 2020 includes all heavy construction and civil infrastructure work.
