Afreximbank’s Egypt financing portfolio to hit $2bn in 2018

Cairo – Mubasher: The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has allocated around $2 billion in financings for Egypt during 2018, chairman Benedict Oramah said on Wednesday.

The loans include $500 million for small- and medium-sized enterprises, Oramah added in a press release during his meeting with trade and industry minister Amr Nassar.

The lender aims to set up Egyptian- African projects in the fields of energy, chemical industries, construction, and communications, the chairman indicated.

He noted that Afreximbank’s financing portfolio in the North African nation stood at 18%, or $1.5 billion, of its total financing programme last year, including $500 million within the framework of the bank’s Egyptian-African trade programme launched 2015.

For his part, Nassar said that Egypt should benefit from financing programme provided by the bank, upon which a number of African countries can establish projects in several fields.

The minister stressed the importance of reinforcing coordination in major infrastructure projects, mainly the construction of roads and railways, energy, health, mining, and oil and gas.
