Al Haramain train to begin official operation early 2018 - Al Rumaih

Riyadh - Mubasher: Official operation of Al Haramain High Speed Rail will begin in early 2018, Al Madina newspaper reported on Tuesday, citing Rumaih Al Rumaih, president of the Saudi Railways Organization (SRO).

All works for the train will be completed by the end of this year, and tests are now underway on the Rabigh line, in addition to other works which are in progress as expected, Al Rumaih, who doubles as the head of the Saudi Transport Authority, stated.

He confirmed that there were no disruptions or delays, pointing out that the public sector's different bodies cooperated in order to identify the obstacles and issues that may hinder the development of logistics services, according to the newspaper.

The experimental operation of the train will not begin before December 2017, Al Haramain train project general manager Bassam Ghulman said.

Al Haramain train is a 480-km railway project linking Makkah and Madinah while passing through Jeddah. The first phase of the project involves the building of four stations.
