Al-Shiha: Waad Al-Shamal project to be ready by 2018

Riyadh - Mubasher: The electric power transmission station in Waad Al Shamal power plant project has begun production, while the progress in building the generation stations reached 30%, according to the CEO of Saudi Electricity Company, Ziyad Al Shiha.

The stations will be ready by 2018, Al Shiha told Mubasher on the sidelines of the Energy Dialogue Forum in Riyadh.

Saudi Electricity has no plans to list Dawiyat Company in the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul), but it intends to activate the company, said Al Shiha, he also said that they signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Zain as well as contracts with other companies to use the fiber optics.

Al Shiha indicted that his company is open to signing similar agreements with other companies.

The CEO also said that power generation will be assigned to the private sector, he also stressed the importance of raising the electric power grid efficiency, as in increase in efficiency by 40% will save an equivalent of nearly 600,000 oil and gas barrels every day.

Power saving by can also play a big role in achieving efficiency, as Saudi Arabia uses an equivalent of 1.5 to 2 million barrels on a daily basis in water and electric utilities.
