Cairo – Mubasher: Alexandria Customs issued customs clearance for cars and spare parts at a total value EGP 3.6 billion in July, according to a statement released by the Egyptian Ministry of Finance (MoF) on Wednesday.
The state-run body collected total taxes, customs, and other charges of EGP 1.07 billion from the import of these items in the seventh month of introducing zero tariffs on cars imported from the European Union (EU), the head of Customs Authority El-Sayed Negm said.
Nearly 7,552 vehicles have been released, with a total value of EGP 1.907 billion in the previous month, the statement added.
A total of EGP 576 million have been paid in taxes and customs to import these cars.
Many of these cars were exempted from the payment of more than EGP 807 million under the EU-Egypt association agreement and Agadir agreement.
Moreover, Alexandria Customs collected taxes and charges of EGP 150 million for releasing 1,250 trucks, microbuses, motorcycles, and tractors valued at EGP 784 million in July.
Some of these vehicles were also exempted from the payment of EGP 54 million under the EU-Egypt association agreement and Agadir agreement.
The state-run body also collected taxes and charges of EGP 111 million for releasing 833 spare parts worth EGP 911 million, whereas some dispatches were exempted from the payment of EGP 21 million.
