Cairo – Mubasher: Alexandria Customs collected total taxes of EGP 1.3 billion for issuing customs clearance for cars and spare parts at a combined value of EGP 4.2 billion in September, El-Sayed Kamal Negm, Head of the Egyptian Customs Authority, said in a statement on Sunday.
The state-run body collected total taxes of EGP 851 million for releasing about 11,200 private cars with a total value of EGP 2.6 billion in the 21st month of introducing zero tariffs on cars imported from the European Union (EU).
A large number of these cars were exempt from the payment of more than EGP 966 million under the EU-Egypt association agreement, Agadir agreement, the free trade agreement with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), and the preferential Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the Common Market of the South (Mercosur).
Moreover, Alexandria Customs collected taxes and charges of EGP 150 million for releasing 1,017 trucks, microbuses, motorcycles, and tractors valued at EGP 690 million in September.
Some of these vehicles were also exempt from the payment of EGP 67 million under the EU-Egypt association agreement, Agadir agreement, and the free trade agreements with EFTA and Mercosur.
The state-run body also collected taxes and charges of EGP 89 million for releasing 750 dispatches of spare parts valued at EGP 919 million, while some dispatches were exempt from the payment of EGP 16 million.
