Alexandria Customs issues clearance for EGP 5.2bn cars, spare parts in February

Cairo – Mubasher: Alexandria Customs collected total taxes of EGP 1.4 billion for issuing customs clearance for cars and spare parts at a combined value of EGP 5.2 billion in February, the Egyptian Ministry of Finance said in a statement on Wednesday.

The state-run body collected total taxes of EGP 938 million for releasing about 13,193 private cars with a total value of EGP 3.3 billion in the fourteenth month of introducing zero tariffs on cars imported from the European Union (EU).

A large number of these cars were exempted from the payment of more than EGP 1.56 billion under the EU-Egypt association agreement and Agadir agreement.

Moreover, Alexandria Customs collected taxes and charges of EGP 239 million for releasing 1,905 trucks, microbuses, motorcycles, and tractors valued at EGP 737 million in February.

Some of these vehicles were also exempted from EGP 44 million under the EU-Egypt association agreement and Agadir agreement.

The state-run body also collected taxes and charges of EGP 109 million for releasing 795 dispatches of spare parts valued at EGP 961 million, while some dispatches were exempted from the payment of EGP 21 million.
