Alexandria Customs issues clearance for EGP 5.3bn cars, spare parts in October

Cairo – Mubasher: Alexandria Customs collected total taxes of EGP 1.63 billion for issuing customs clearance for cars and spare parts at a combined value of EGP 5.29 billion in October, the Head of the Egyptian Customs Authority, El-Sayed Kamal Negm, said in a statement on Tuesday.

The state-run body collected total taxes of EGP 1.2 billion for releasing about 17,224 private cars with a total value of EGP 4.42 billion in the 22nd month of introducing zero tariffs on cars imported from the European Union (EU).

A large number of these cars were exempt from the payment of more than EGP 1.75 billion under the EU-Egypt association agreement, Agadir agreement, the free trade agreement with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), and the preferential free trade agreement with the Southern Common Market (Mercosur).  

Moreover, Alexandria Customs collected taxes and charges of EGP 421 million for releasing 687 trucks, microbuses, motorcycles, and tractors valued at EGP 85 million in October.

Some of these vehicles were also exempt from the payment of EGP 37 million under the EU-Egypt association agreement, Agadir agreement, the free trade agreement with the EFTA, and the preferential free trade agreement with the Mercosur.  

The state-run body also collected taxes and charges of EGP 80 million for releasing 681 dispatches of spare parts valued at EGP 450 million, while some dispatches were exempt from the payment of EGP 16 million.
