Arab-Japan trade hits $80bn in 2015 – Official

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Trade between Arab countries and Japan reached $80 billion in 2015, representing around 7% of total foreign trade for Japan said assistant undersecretary for foreign trade affairs at the UAE ministry of economy Gomaa Mohammed Al-Keet.

Speaking on the sidelines of Arab-Japan Economic Forum held in Casablanca, Morocco, the official revealed that commercial non-oil trade between the UAE and Japan reached $15 billion last year.

On the other hand, Japan's oil imports from the UAE reached 24.34 million barrels, around 22.4% of total imports in December 2015, according to data by Japan's Agency for Natural Resources and Energy.

Total UAE investments in Japan amounted to $271 million by the end of 2014, according to a statement.

The UAE ranks first amongst its Arab peers and 10th globally as a trade partner with Japan, the official revealed.

Saudi Arabia came in second top trade partner with Japan, according to a report by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) released in January this year.

Japan is the Arab world’s fourth largest partner after the European Union, the United States and China.
