Arabtec’s alliance lands contract for Bahrain Airport expansion

Mubasher: An alliance including UAE Arabtec Holding and Turkish TAV Construction has been selected to undertake an expansion project at Bahrain International Airport, according to the Bahraini transportation ministry.

Coming as part of Bahrain Airport Company’s modernisation program, the expansion contract, valued at $1.1 billion, involves the construction of the airport’s new passenger terminal building, main services building and aircraft bay, according to a ministerial statement, quoted by Bahrain News Agency, during the Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS) 2016.

During BIAS, another five contracts were awarded, including one with CIMC from China for the Passenger air bridges; a contract for the Baggage Handling System with Vanderlande from the Netherlands; a contract with L3 Communications from the USA for Security Screening Equipment; and a contract with Kone from Finland for the Horizontal and Vertical Transfer Systems.

“We are expecting to complete the project in 2019, with 3-fold increase in direct flights and numbers of airline using the new passenger terminal building," said CEO of Bahrain Airport Company Mohammed Albinfalah.
