Aramco awards $175m deal to GE's Baker Hughes

Riyadh – Mubasher: Baker Hughes, the unit of General Electric company (BHGE), won a SAR 665.25 million ($175 million) agreement from Saudi Aramco to boost production at the Hawiyah and Haradh gas fields.

Hawiyah and Haradh gas fields are part of Al-Ghawar gas field which is considered the largest oil filed internationally, according to BHGE's statement.

The world's largest oil producer plans to increase gas production to 23 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) over the coming ten years.

“BHGE will supply 27 high-efficiency gas compression trains consisting of compressors, gearboxes, electric motors and loop oil systems for the extraction of gas from the Haradh and Hawiyah to feed the fields’ existing gas plants for processing, contributing to increased operational efficiency,” the statement added.

BHGE will collaborate with domestic suppliers to provide equipment which in return will raise localisation, technology transfer, and experience transfer.

“Through our major projects we are supporting the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 that focuses on localising our industry and creating new jobs for Saudi talents,” Vice President of Procurement and Supply Chain Management in Saudi Aramco, Abdulaziz Al-Abdulkarim said.

“The contract with BHGE has a strong in-Kingdom value creation component that will benefit the development of a ‘Made in Saudi’ supply chain for the oil and gas sector,” Al-Abdulkarim added.

“With over 80 years of presence in the Kingdom, we are committed to supporting the oil and gas sector through our advanced equipment that brings greater operational efficiency and productivity to Saudi Aramco, our long-term partner,” Rami Qasem, BHGE’s President and CEO in the MENA, North Africa, Turkey, and India stated.

“A portion of the testing and assembly will also be done in the Kingdom, with the support of Saudi SME partners, reinforcing our focus on developing the local supply chain in line with the IKTVA program of Saudi Aramco,” Qasem concluded.
