Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Aramco plans to take a role in the shale revolution via producing unconventional natural gas by the end of March.
This move will enable the world’s largest oil exporter to exploit a deposit that could rival for the Eagle Ford formation in Texas., Bloomberg reported.
“Saudi Arabia’s gas resources from shale and other alternative supplies are huge,” general manager of unconventional resources at Aramco Khalid Al Abdulqader said on Wednesday.
The output at the kingdom’s North Arabia basin will come online by the end of March, Al Abdulqader said, adding that it will reach its target by the end of this year.
The largest international oil firm is also drilling for unconventional gas in basins located in South Ghawar and Jafurah.
Jafurah plant’s size is similar to Eagle Ford which is the second largest plant for gas in the US.
Aramco seeks to develop the basin through using the state-of-the-art technology in a bid to slash fracking costs.
The Middle Eastern oil giant will also focus on trimming costs in Jafurah’s plant before starting on gas production.
