Dubai – Mubasher: Aramex, a leading global logistics and transportation solutions provider, on Tuesday announced that it will move all of its technology infrastructure from its on-premises data centres to Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Through this step, Aramex aims to boost agility, speed of innovation, and security, according to a press release.
The company listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) has formed a data lake in its first phase of cloud adoption that host a big data infrastructure which leverages machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
Aramex’s in-house data science team has set up a data analytics and machine-learning platform on AWS by benefiting from Amazon SageMaker.
The company aims at enhancing delivery accuracy and solving the lack of proper physical addresses in the region through this platform.
The ML-based platform is also providing the company the ability to have accurate and instant delivery time predictions, using calculations based on seasonality and capacity constraints.
Aramex has boosted shipping-date predictions accuracy by 74% and cut its average processing time for a prediction from 2.5 seconds to under 200 milliseconds after using this platform.
Mohammed Sleeq, chief digital officer at Aramex, said: “Today, we are able to look at our customers’ delivery experience and expectations from origination to last mile delivery and work backwards to identify technologies and processes that can help us to deliver faster, more efficiently, and operate with elasticity. We are now starting the full migration of our IT infrastructure to AWS and are excited to realize the full benefits of the cloud.”
In October 2018, Aramex was one of the first companies in the logistics and transport industry to launch an AI-based chatbot for customers on WhatsApp.
