Mubasher: Asian stocks saw a mixed performance on Friday.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 fell 0.02% to 18,918.2 points, whereas the broader Topix index increased 0.3% to 1,514.99 points.
The dollar was up 0.3% at 113.13 yen by 7:11am GMT.
The Shanghai composite index also retreated 0.63% to 3,139.38 points by 7:17am GMT.
