Nikkei 225 increased 0.2% to reach 15,749 points.
The broader Topix index gained 0.4% to stand at 1,272 points.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index advanced 0.02% to 20,211.50 points.
On the flipside, China's Shanghai Composite index declined 1.4% to 3,008.67 points.
