Bahrain Bourse sees positive performance in Q1

Mubasher: The main index of Bahrain Bourse (BHB) levelled up 76.06 points, or 5.7% to close the first quarter of 2019 at 1,413.32 points.

The stock exchange’s market capitalisation rose BHD 467 million to BHD 8.667 billion at the end of Q1-19.

The commercial bank sector led gainers with 14.7% as Ahli United Bank-Bahrain (AUB) jumped 30%.

The investment sector rose 3.6% after GFH Financial Group’s stock went up 4%, followed by Investcorp’s stock with 4.2%, and Al Baraka Banking Group’s stock grew 3.3%.

The service sector went up 5.8% as Bahrain Telecommunication Company’s (Batelco) stock surged 10.7%.

On the flipside, the industrial sector slumped 27.8% after Aluminium Bahrain’s (Alba) stock retreated 93%.

Bahrain Bourse’s trading volume reached 317.287 million shares, generating a turnover of BHD 83.97 million in the first three months of this year.

On a monthly basis, the stock exchange’s main index inched up 0.66 points, or 0.05%, compared to February.

Bahrain Bourse’s traded volume hit 100.080 million shares last month with a turnover of BHD 28.560 million.
