Riyadh – Mubasher: The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) successfully received 26 vessels to date, the company’s acting CEO, Ali Al-Harbi, said.
Al-Harbi added that there are eight more very large crude carriers (VLCCs) currently on order, among which three will be delivered this year.
Bahri received a VLCC named Maharah on Monday.
“The addition of Maharah further strengthens our position as the world's largest owner and operator of VLCCs and reinforces our leadership position in the global transportation and logistics sector,” Ahmed Ali Al-Subaey, board member at Bahri, stated.
Al-Subaey added that the new VLCC came after only months from receiving the 37th VLCC Amjad in February, noting that the fleet growth is very important to offset low spot market rates, according to a statement.
Maharah is a 300,000-deadweight tonnage (dwt) carrier and is among the agreement signed with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in South Korea.
Bahri Oil, one of Bahri’s six business units, will be responsible for the commercial operation of Maharah. Bahri Oil has several long-term contracts with first-class charterers, with volumes exceeding its owned fleet capacity, the statement highlighted.
