Barakah Nuclear Power Plant starts commercial operations

UAE - Mubasher: Barakah Nuclear Power Plant has started its commercial operation to promote the sustainability of the UAE's entire power sector, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced on Tuesday on their official Twitter accounts.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, said that the first megawatt from the first Arab nuclear plant has entered the UAE's national power grid.

The Ruler of Dubai added that 2,000 Emirati engineers and 80 international partners have participated in launching and operating the 5,600MW Barakah nuclear power plant (NPP).

It is noteworthy to mention that in March, Nawah Energy Company, the operation and maintenance subsidiary of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), has completed loading the fuel assemblies into the reactor of Unit 2 at Barakah plant.
