Barakah Unit 2 passes pre-operational tests

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) has successfully completed hot functional testing (HFT) at the second unit of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in collaboration with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), the project's prime contractor.

This pre-operational testing process would help the power plant meet the highest international standards of quality, safety, and efficiency, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

"By incorporating the lessons learned from the same tests on Unit 1, we continue to establish Barakah as the benchmark for new nuclear construction projects worldwide," ENEC CEO Mohamed Al Hammadi explained.

HFT requires weeks and comprises around 200 individual and integrated tests performed on major systems to check their performance under normal operational conditions, without the presence of nuclear fuel in the reactor, WAM revealed.

"These successful tests clearly demonstrate the safety, reliability, and technological robustness of the reactor design,” CEO of KEPCO JongKap Kim commented.
