Boursa Kuwait indices up in February amid lower liquidity

Mubasher: The indices of Boursa Kuwait registered a positive performance in February in line with a decrease in liquidity.

Boursa Kuwait’s price index rose by 1.27% or 85.02 points to 6,772.83 points by the end of February compared to 6,687.81 points in January.

The weighted index edged up 0.49% to 413.98 points in February compared to 411.98 points in the previous month.

Similarly, the Kuwait-15 index gained 1.83% or 17.2 points to 958.03 in February from 940.81 points in January.

In February, Boursa Kuwait was closed on Sunday and Monday, 25 and 26 February, on the occasion of the national and liberation holidays.

Boursa Kuwait’s trading volume shrank by 49.6% to 1.32 billion shares in February compared to 2.61 billion in the prior month.

Liquidity totalled KWD 207.26 million in February, 35.8% lower than KWD 322.92 million in January.

The number of transactions decreased by 41.6% to around 54,550 this month from nearly 93,330 in January.

Real estate companies topped gainers of the month with 16.4%, while the healthcare segment led nine decliners this month with 10.3%.
