Cairo – Mubasher: An explosion hit the surrounding area of Mar Girgis Church in Tanta, local Egyptian Nile News Channel reported on Sunday.
The news outlet reported casualties.
The secretary general of Al Gharbiya governorate told Extra News channel that the explosion left 13 dead and 31 injured.
According to preliminary reports in state media, a bomb had been placed inside the church underneath a seat.
The explosion comes as Coptic Christians started celebrations for Palm Sunday.
