CAPMAS: 1.2m housing units built in Egypt in 5 years

Cairo – Mubasher: The total number of housing units built during the period between 2009-2010 and 2014-2015 by the public governmental, public business and private sectors reached 1.2 million units at a value of EGP 109.6 billion.

The public governmental and public business sectors built 41.7% or 497,100 units; where 363,000 units were constructed by the governmental sector and 134,100 by the public business.

The private sector built 58.3% or 694,200 units, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The agency added that the year 2014-2015 witnessed the largest number of units reaching 352,600, followed by 2009-2010 with 196,100 units, then 2012-2013 with 135,600 units.

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi called on the housing ministry to complete the building of 145,000 units, under the social housing program for youth, in 2016 at a total cost of EGP 20 billion ($2.55 billion).

The president's order came as a part of the national project to construct 244,000 housing units for youth.
