Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s index for manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, rose 18.3% to 133.24 during March 2016 against 112.66 a month earlier, said the Central Agency for public mobilization and statistics (CAPMAS).
Meanwhile, mining and quarrying industry fell by 36.5% month-over-month to 68.56 from 107.97, CAPMAS said.
Likewise, the total index for the manufacture of computers, electronics, optical products, and medical machineries reached 143.93, down 12.4% from 164.36 for February 2016, CAPMAS reported, attributing this decline to inactive market mood and production shutdown on retreating demand.
The agency further reported that beverage industry’s index stood at 124.74 in March, compared with 92.59 in February.
According to the state vision for 2017/18, the government targets an 8% growth in the in the industrial sector by the end of FY17/18.
