CAPMAS: Egypt’s trade deficit down 44% in March

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s trade balance deficit annually declined in March by 44.4% to EGP 19.9 billion ($2.23 billion) compared with EGP 35.7 billion ($4 billion) for the year-ago month, said the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

In this context, export value rose in March by 11.7% year-over-year to EGP 17.6 billion from EGP 15.8 billion.

On the other hand, import value declined by 27.2% year-on-year to EGP 37.5 billion from EGP 51.5 billion.

In February, trade balance deficit declined in February 22% year-over-year to EGP 23.4 billion from EGP 30 billion, said CAPMAS.

Earlier, the head of Customs Authority, Magdy Abdel-Aziz, said trade deficit in the first half of 2015/16 edged down 1% year-over-year from $27.7 billion to $27.5 billion,
