Cairo – Mubasher: The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) will issue treasury bonds (T-bonds) worth EGP 16.25 billion on Thursday on behalf of and in coordination with the Ministry of Finance (MOF).
The first 182-day tranche amounts to EGP 7.75 billion, whereas the second tranche, extending for 364 days, is worth EGP 8.5 billion, the CBE said.
Egypt’s debt instruments, particularly T-bills, are seen as attractive to foreign investors owing to their high yield. Government banks are also among the top buyers of government bonds.
Previous data by the CBE showed that quarter-on-quarter Egypt’s total foreign debt rose 2.3% or by $1.8 billion to $80.8 billion in the first quarter of fiscal year 2017/2018.
