Cairo arbitral tribunal fines Vodafone Egypt $42m

Cairo – Mubasher: The arbitral tribunal at the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA) has issued a judgment mandating Vodafone Egypt to pay EGP 750 million ($41.9 million) to Etisalat Misr.

The judgment is final and cannot be appealed, Etisalt Misr said.

The tribunal also rejected all of Vodafone’s requests and ruled that it is liable to pay all arbitral cost paid by Etisalt Misr, which is estimated at $440,000.

The current decision settled a 10-year dispute arose after Vodafone Egypt’s refusal to comply to the National Telecom Regulatory Authority’s (NTRA) decisions regulating the network tie-up prices.
