Cairo bourse hits 100-month high on foreign buying

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) finished the mid-week trading session on a stronger note, extending gains to the ninth straight session amid a strong foreign buying activity.

The main index EGX30 increased by 243.88 points, or 2.48%, to stand at the mark of 10,096.57 points.

CIB, Global Telecom, Juhayna, Edita, Credit Agricole, Eastern Tobacco, GB Auto, Elsewedy and Kuwaiti Holding rose within the 1.6-10% range, while Oriental Weavers was the worst performer with a 5.7% slide.

The small and mid-cap index EGX70 was higher 2.74% to 381.03 points.

The broader index EGX100 moved up 3.5% to 904.96 points and the equal-weighted index went up 2.14% to 1,509.78 points.    

Foreign investors strongly backed the bourse with EGP 563.8 net purchases, while Egyptians and Arab investors were EGP 494.3 million and EGP 69.5 million respectively.

Trading value reached EGP 1.77 billion after 464.8 million shares were traded.

Out of 183 traded stocks, 88 were up, 62 down, and 33 unchanged.

By 10:30am Cairo time, the main index opened Tuesday at the highest mark since June 2008, gaining 304 points, or 3.1%, to 10,157 points.
