Cairo bourse hits 14-month high

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Exchange finished Monday’s trading session on a mixed note and the main index (EGX30) neared the mark of 8,500 points.

The benchmark gained 102.5 points, or 1.32% to reach 8,453.53 points, thus registering the highest mark since 26 June 2015.

The EGX30 top advancers were CIB (+3.2%), Oriental Weaver (+1.91%), and Elsewedy (+1.85%).

Meanwhile, Juhayna, GT, Egyptian Resorts, GB Auto, Al Qalaa, SODIC, TMG, Palm Hills, EFG-Herms, and Pioneer saw a slide ranging from 3.9% to 0.7%.

The broader index EGX100 inched up 0.07% to 809.07 points and the equal-weighted index EGX50 increased 0.25% to 1,433.17 points.

On the flipside, the small and mid-cap index EGX70 were 0.3% down to 364.84 points.  

With 253.8 million shares changing hands in more than 25,500 transactions, trading value leveled at EGP 826 million.

Out of 172 traded stocks, 58 went up; 67 moved down; and 47 stayed flat.

Arab and foreign investors were net buyers by EGP 13.8 million and EGP 6.5 million respectively, while Egyptians were net sellers by EGP 20.3 million.

CIB was the most active stock in terms of value with a EGP 195 million turnover for 3.7 million shares traded in 1,700 deals.

In terms of volume, OTMT was the top advancer with an amount crossing 60.9 million shares worth EGP 37.2 million in 710 transactions.
